Taléta Willer

Taléta Willer is the founder of Workshops in Africa and a professional oil and charcoal painter, commissioned portrait artist and mentor based in Stellenbosch.

She is best known for emotionally resonant portraits and narrative paintings that bring a love of realism into conversation with personal allegory.

With a sensitive eye for value and hue, Taléta seeks qualities a camera cannot hold—the inner life of a subject, the ambiguity of a gesture and the atmosphere surrounding a figure. She is especially drawn to painting children and approaches every sitter with honesty and care.

Taléta was self-taught before studying with internationally recognised artists including Vladimir Volegov, Michelle Dunaway and Jeremy Lipking.

Alongside a busy painting and mentoring practice, she runs a private art school from her Stellenbosch studio and teaches workshops across South Africa. Her work is held in private collections in the United States, the United Kingdom, Tanzania and beyond.
